A habit can be a disease because once you become accustomed to it, it becomes quite difficult to break lose. Someone may have become an addict to conducts like smoking, drinking, over eating, being abusive or simply being careless about their lives. Whether it is a friend, living next door or someone you know you may want to know how to help someone break bad habits.

A negative attitude is not something that attacks the life of an individual overnight. A person will actually develop a habit through practice and repetition for months and even years. When the situation grows within the individual, it becomes a rooted part of life, which if not looked into, could actually be their personality.

You can assists your friend or that family member who has a bad attitude to break it. There is always a potential to change from being a negative person to an admirable personality. Below are some few ideas you can use to assist an individual to lose him or herself from acting in an inhuman manner.

Observe the person in question to learn about the unpleasing things that they do. Try to figure out how frequent they ditch themselves in such kind of a situation before you can even think of asking them to change. You may also want to learn about the places they go and whom they meet during the day and night as well.

Help them think of an alternative that can assists them revert to a normal state of mind when they act in an appropriate manner. Remember, a habit is not something that you throw away; it is a human attitude that needs a replacement. Do not expect that your friend or partner will change overnight. Give them time to get accustomed to the new feeling and status of life.

Remember becoming accustomed to a habit takes months and year of repetition and this clearly means that changing the habit and replacing it with another one will take time as well. Please do not ask someone to drop a habit, instead ask them to replace the habit with a different type altogether.

Remember that a habit is hard to kill, so always take it slow when you are guiding an individual whom you would like to transform. Breaking lose will not be easy, but if you do not give up on the person, you will slowly realize how much they want to value the new life you want them to live. Encourage them to replace a habit, not to kill it.

Another great way on how to help someone break bad habits is being patient with them all through. They are not robots to adjust in seconds or within 24 hours. Give them time. On the bottom line, be there for them.
