These are that people you go to when you feel that you there is something you are dissatisfied about your life and it is affecting you in many ways and you want to change it. They can be helpful if you want to overcome your problems though the most important thing is that you have the will and the commitment to do so.

There might be many issues that may caused you to be depressed and they can help you go through this situation and guide you in finding solutions. These people have professional training and clinical skills to help people learn to cope more effectively with life and mental health problems. They study how people think, feel and behave from a scientific point of view.

Then, they use the knowledge they have attained to understand better the behavior of their patients, then explain it to them and find the best ways they can change it. Many of them actively practice or do research. Many work as researchers in their fields or they are a faculty member in colleges and universities.

There are many who work in private corporations, offices, hospitals, correctional facilities, clinics and schools and still others. After graduate school and clinical training, they will be now given their license so that they can put their skills to good use. They could work from a single individual to a large group such as corporations or government organizations.

Others want to have someone to guide them during a short term problem such as being overwhelmed with a new job or grieving the death of a family member. They can also help people cope with stressful situations, break past their barriers, overcome their addictions or manage their illness that keeps them from reaching their goals.

Other than that, they are also trained to administer and interpret a number of tests and assessments that can help diagnose a condition or tell more about the way a person thinks, behaves or feel. These test can evaluate intellectual skill, personality characteristics, cognitive strengths and weaknesses, neuropsychological functioning, and vocational aptitude and preference. They also use different evidence based treatments to help improve the lives of their patients.

There is a variety of styles in treating the patient and the psychologist will choose the one that suits the patient most and the one that can effectively address the current condition. The common types of these are psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, interpersonal, humanistic or a mix of those styles. Some are even trained in hypnosis where it is said to be effective for a variety of conditions.

Some of the conditions may need medications with their therapy. Most Pasadena psychologist are not allowed to give out medications instead they have to work together with pediatricians, psychiatrists or a physician for the treatment. Though, there are a few states that may allow them to prescribe medications as long they have the additional training to do so and only from a list of medications allowed for them.
