Gaining Self Confidence To Succeed In Anything

By Chelsea Grace

Where does self confidence come from? How can we get it? Why don't I have it? The answer to all these questions can be solved with one word you! Self confidence starts with you, your perception of yourself, and what others think about your actions or behaviour.

For many of us, an absence of self confidence only has an impact on our high ambitions. You may have always needed to get up on stage, or to be a professional vocalist or actor as an example. Maybe your life dream is to travel worldwide, visit different countries or towns, but you don't have the self confidence to do it. For others, the difficulty of self confidence is much nearer to home - at work, business conferences, public presenting events or displays.

Self confidence issues affect most of us at some time, and we will be able to sometimes find ways of getting round the problem. Avoidance is one strategy we frequently use - if we are able to get out of a menacing situation we will make up excuses not to take part. Nevertheless there are occasions when we will not get out of it, or we really don't want to. If an absence of self confidence is preventing you from doing trying something new, or from succeeding in your working life, it's time to do something about it.

The starting point in improving your self confidence is understanding what causes the difficulty. Low self esteem, not believing in yourself or your capability, feeling insufficient compared to your comrades or mates or maybe some kind of shock from your adolescence are all contributing factors. By examining the reasons for your low self confidence, you are halfway there!

Taking positive action to overcome your fears is the following step to help increase your self confidence. A straightforward way to try this is by taking on little challenges. You have permitted your brain to associate certain events or actions with fear, so you've already pre-empted the result of these circumstances. By taking a tiny step in the direction of conquering this, you will find the result's probably not as bad as you think actually you'll likely be shocked about how good you are feeling and your self confidence will right away increase.

When you've completed your first tiny challenge, congratulate yourself on achieving your target. A tiny reward can often help. You're already on the right path to improving your self confidence, so you're prepared to take it to the next level. This doesn't need to be a massive task; you do not want to undo all the good work. Building up your self confidence needs time, and while you might like to leap ahead, it can be a good idea to take things slowly at first. Gradually increase the risks you are taking to get your self confidence to where you need to be. Risk taking does not, of course, mean jumping off a bridge, but the perceived likelihood of something taking place as a result of your actions is mostly the largest barrier with self confidence.

Self confidence problems are common for most people, and there are glorious resources to learn to handle these issues, but if you have severe difficulty facing certain circumstances you must seek pro help.
