Discussing Religion With Theology Forums

By Claudette Lambert

We always have questions in our mind about the correct way to practice religion, about the origin of traditions and rituals and exactly what is said in the many Holy books that we have. Given that with our hectic schedules we do not have time to spend studying them and reading about it, our mind still questions the validity of many things that we see around us. To help us with this, we now have theology forums.

This is not a group of fanatics who have got together to raise more like them and create havoc in the world. Instead, these are people who want to learn more about their religion and their culture. Topics are posted on the websites and every member who wants to give his or her opinion or thought can post it there. There are no restrictions, unless someone uses abusive language, and it is a healthy give and take of interest.

Universities across the world have been studying theology for years. A lot of research, analysis and even criticism for this subject has been done and is still going on. On the same path, these online groups get together to help each other understand more deeply about concepts and the correct way of living our lives. It can be seen as a gathering of people who do not recognize physical barriers and come together to learn.

Anybody can become a member of such forums. There is no prohibition or restriction. You only need to be a seeker of knowledge to be allowed to participate. But extra measures are taken to ensure that the discussion does not become too heated or agitated, or that it does not lead to misinterpretation of facts or philosophies.

They also provide support to each other. When you have been a member of a forum for some amount of time, you develop a bond with your fellow members. You turn to them for advice and guidance, and the same thing happens in such forums as well. People help each other out by guiding them or explaining correct actions based on the scriptures.

Some of the discussions that have been seen on such websites have been about a concept or a parable or a story from one of the scriptures or Holy books. The discussion starts with trying to understand what the concept is about and what inferences we can draw from it. It goes on to tell us what the moral of the story is and what learning we must take back with us from it.

But with such a support group as a backing, we can go back to discovering the comfort and peace that we find within. Not to mention that it is an excellent place to gather research material if you are a theology student.

Such theology forums are created by students, working people and even retired people. All the members on the various websites agree that participating in discussions about various topics is a very enriching experience and its gives them a sense of fulfillment.
